WATER DEPARTMENT TO FLUSH WATER MAINS

Bonner Springs, Kansas – For the next six weeks, the Water Department will be flushing the water mains throughout the City on Mondays and Tuesdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  During the flushing process, we suggest that you do not use water in your home, especially for washing clothes, to avoid problems due to the potential occurrence of colored water.

The City flushes from hydrants to remove residue and sediments from the water mains until the water is clear.  The water quality in the water mains will normally clear up within 30 minutes after we flush near your residence or business.  If you do experience colored water, we suggest running a single faucet for 10-15 minutes, until the water is clear.  If the water does not clear up within that amount of time, stop running water for another 30 minutes or longer, then repeat the process.

You may need to flush your system by running each faucet separately if you used water during the time we flushed our water mains.  Try not to flush toilets, the fill tanks on toilets are susceptible to retain sediments and will continue to cause a problem until the tank is cleaned.  Hot water tanks will create similar problems.  Please keep in mind that the water is safe to drink even when it is colored.  If you find that the water is still running dirty after 3:00 p.m., and you have run water with your faucets for 15 minutes, feel free to call the Water Department at 913-422-8117.
